Connection Support for Personal Web Space

Any Net Idea customer with a dial-up or high speed internet account has personal web space ranging from 25 to 100 MB of web space. To view your web space address will be http://community.netidea.com/yourusername/ where yourusername would be your Net Idea account user name.

You may use this web space for storing and sharing files, or creating a web page. Note that your web space is for personal use only. If you need to host a commercial website, look into our web hosting plans.

Uploading files via FTP

You will need an FTP client (program) in order to put files on the web. We recommend FileZilla (free) for Windows and Transmit (allows for 10 minute connection periods without purchase) for Mac computers. View the following guides for publishing files with these programs:

You can also refer to our web hosting connection support section for FTP help with other common FTP and web development programs.

FTP Connection Info

  • Hostname: ftp.netidea.com
  • Upload all files to: /public_html
  • Remember that Linux (a version of UNIX) is case sensitive, and that INDEX.HTML, Index.html, and index.html will be treated as 3 separate files
  • Avoid spaces when naming files
  • Use your Net Idea account username and password to log into your FTP directory.

Common problems connecting to Net Idea's servers via FTP

When a customer can't connect to their account via FTP, a common problem is that they are behind a firewall, and need to be using passive mode in order to connect. Please follow one of the instructional guides above to help you, read your FTP program’s help files or call our office for assistance.
