Remote Data Back-Up FAQ
Can I use this service if I have a dial-up connection to the internet?
Not feasibly. Most companies and individuals have a large amount of data vital to its operation, and a dial-up connection would take too long. We recommend using high speed internet service that allows you to have a 512 kbps upload speed as a minimum.
Can residential customers use this service?
Absolutely. There are some things to consider however when doing personal back-ups. Most home users are wanting to back-up data like their photo libraries and home movies. These items do not compress well, and may require you to purchase a higher service plan than anticipated. For further consultation, we'd love to hear from you - contact us today to discuss your backup needs.
Will my files be secure?
Yes. The servers that will store your archives are protected by a top of the line firewall. Plus, your files can be encrypted to AES standard, which is a benchmark standard for encryption. We further protect your data by housing the servers in a fire suppressed environment, with on call technicians available 24/7/365.
Do you have a restore utility?
Currently we do not. We hope to develop such a program in the future, however, this backup system is very easy to recover from all by yourself.
I have an Apple computer, will this work?
Cobian was specifically designed for Windows NT based systems. We are currently developing a software package to interface with Windows, Linux, Mac OSX, and UNIX. However, your Macintosh has built in utilities, or we can show you how to accomplish the backups using a non-Windows based computing platform. We pride ourselves as being one of the most Mac friendly environments, so we would be able to find you a solution.
Will Cobian run on the new Windows Vista operating system?
Cobian is not quite compatible with Windows Vista, and there are some issues the development team is still working out. We expect regular patches and good compatibility with Vista by Fall of 2007. Cobian is currently "use at own risk" with Windows Vista.
I have different software that can be used, do I have to use Cobian?
No. Your back-up service contract is for the bandwidth and storage of your data, not the software. You may use whatever program you like. We simply recommend using Cobian because of its simple user interface.
